Thankful for Love

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. (Psalm 107:1 CSB)

It’s thanksgiving! Happy thanksgiving!

With a tiny little one, I’ve had a lot on my mind this holiday season, and unfortunately it hasn’t been all thankful.

My lack of sleep being the first one coming to mind, the second being how anxious I’ve been about her getting sick! Little LR and I have decided the best course of action for the holidays is to hole up and only do very small gatherings, which really stinks!

Having our holiday season thrown so far out of whack, it’s been pretty easy to get bogged down with the business of it rather than getting into the spirit of being thankful! Do any of you feel that way, readers? Like life has gotten in the way of being thankful?

Something we used to do as an extended family was list one thing that we’re thankful for. Friends, family, stuff, the food! All are incredible things to be thankful for, but our Psalmist reminds us of the most important thing: God.

God’s love, God’s faithfulness, God’s goodness. These are just a few of the things that God is, that are worthy of praise.

God’s sovereignty, God’s graciousness, the salvation that we’ve been granted through His Son, Jesus Christ.

So, even as we struggle to focus on the meaning of the season, or as we are surrounded by people who have altogether forgotten, remember that there is nothing better in this world than the amazing love and perfection that is our God of Gods, Lord of Lords.

I want to pray for each of us today!

Dear Lord,

I want to take some time today, amid the hectic craziness that is Thanksgiving, to lift to You our praises. You are worthy of all things, and somehow have decided that we are worthy of Your love. Worthy to be in Your family. You have blessed us beyond measure, and we want to thank You for that. We want to thank You for the family we have to spend it with, and the family that is spending it with You instead. Thank You for the time we are allowed to spend with each other, and the year ahead of us. We want to thank You for loving us even when You aren’t our top priority. You don’t hold back Your blessings or love even when we fall short, and we fall short constantly. Thank You Lord, for being our Lord. Amen.

As you spend this holiday however you do, remember this: you are loved more than you could ever imagine, and nothing you do will make that untrue. Keep that in mind, and praise Him for it!
