Gratitude is not Circumstantial
It’s so easy for me to list all of the things I love, all of the things I am thankful for. My husband and son, my chosen family, my house and paid-off-car. God has provided so many things for my family and I.
But I never once thanked God for being God.
It’s so easy to thank God for all of the things He does for us; all of the things that He has given us. Even James states that all good and perfect things that we have are from Him.
But who is God and how can we describe Him?
God is beyond our comprehension, but we do know for sure that He is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. He is more than worthy of all of our praise and devotion!
Three Ways To Memorize Scripture
“I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11 CSB - Ironically, this is the very first scripture that I memorized! I needed to know why I should memorize scripture, and here it is: If you don’t want to sin all the time, memorize scripture so that you know right from wrong.
What is the Bible?
The Bible is a massively important book for us as believers. Yes, sometimes it may be challenging for us to read and understand because the culture in which it was written is so different from ours. Nevertheless, it is vital that you study the Word and seek to find the meaning that God has given.
Reformation Day
This action led to the Protestant Reformation and inspired believers to pursue genuine faith through true repentance and a biblical foundation.
Lies we believe about the church
Let’s talk about the lies that are surrounding the church. You know the ones I mean: all Christians are judgmental. I don’t have to go to church to be a Christian. And then, my personal favorite, I have to get myself right before I come to church.
10 Commandments Part 3- How to Love Others
Commandments five through ten are all about loving others, but we can still see a need for loving God woven throughout.
Resting in Christ
The fourth commandment is to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. As evangelical believers, we are to follow this command, although in a slightly different way than our Jewish ancestors.
Beatitudes Part 2
As we talked about in the last post, the beatitudes are a portion of the “Sermon on the Mount” which is found in Matthew chapters 5-7. These ethics that Jesus is calling us to live out are impossible to achieve on our own, but they show us our need for God’s grace and mercy, and force us to lean into the Holy Spirit as we’re tested.
How do we become Genuine Disciples and do Genuine Discipleship?
We are all called to a life of genuine discipleship, which involves a delight in the ways of God, a devotion to want to know Him more, and a demonstration of His change in our lives. This is an ongoing, lifelong process that creates a cycle of discipleship and bringing along new believers as we grow.
What Does Genuine Discipleship Look Like?
Genuine discipleship looks like a genuine change of one's heart, mind and actions.
Beatitudes Part 1
There’s a reason Jesus tells us to pursue these things. An unknown author says for us to write scripture in our heart so that we may remember it and not sin against God, (Psalm 119:11). If we were to write these in our heart and pursue these three things every day, we would be seeking our relationship with God the way He wants us to.
Why it Matters that We Evangelize
We are all commanded to share the Gospel of Jesus- the Good News of His coming, living, dying, and resurrection- with every human in creation. Not only do we do this because we are told to, but because we want to love God and show love to our friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family.
How to Evangelize
Go, tell people about the Man who died for you so that you can be free of the guilt and shame your sin brings. Tell people about the hope and joy you can have because of this sacrifice. Share the very gospel that has given you grace when there should only be damnation. That’s all you have to do.
How to Love the Lord your God
We show our love for God by recognizing Him as the One True God. We show our love for God by placing nothing equal to him. We show our love for God by honoring His name and only using it in respectful ways.
The Gospel Articulated
The gospel isn’t always easy to articulate, especially when we’re trying to communicate it to others. While preparing for Vacation Bible School, I learned an easier way to teach the gospel, and am so excited to share that with you!
Theology 101
Theology is the discussion of God and all things related to God. Both believers and nonbelievers all do theology. Theology is not just a list of things we learn, it informs how we live our lives.
Do you ever just feel lonely? Like maybe it is because you spend a lot of time by yourself or live alone. Or sometimes there’s the lonely feeling even when surrounded by a lot of people, but it just seems like nobody understands you. If so, I have totally been there (as you saw in a recent post), but so have some major people from the Bible.
